Well it happened, and pretty much as expected...today Michelle Obama and a group of grade school kids are going to break ground on an 1100 square foot organic vegetable garden on the South Lawn of the White House. It will be installed and maintained by current White House staff, as well as the Obamas. The New York Times and the Washington Post have both run articles on it, and Roger Dorion of Eat The View sent an celebratory email around last night. Reading all three it sounds pretty good. The work will be overseen by Sam Kass, one of the WH chefs, and one of the WH carpenters who is a beekeeper is going to set up a couple of hives. Here is a link to a plan of the garden that appeared on the NY Times website.
