Jordan and Sudan have many similarities, the two most common being their high Muslim percentage and
desert climate. Sudan (or at least the area surrounding Khartoum) has one landform, flat desert with the occasional pile of rocks, prickly bush or mud/brick hut. In Jordan there are many more landforms making up the desert and the land changes quickly within the small country (about 600 km north to south and 400 km east to west). Jordan is a country of many elevations from the salty below sea level waters of the Dead Sea up to the hills of Petra and Amman. Many of the steep barren mountainsides resemble the Grand Canyon with similar geology and structure to the southwestern United States.
Jordanian people are well dressed; the women in particular are very stylish, and coordinated in their dress while remaining conservative and covered. Every woman is elegantly dressed with every articles coordinated from her dress to her shoes, handbag and head scarf. The vast majority of women and girls have their heads covered and many women wear burkas with only their eyes visible.
In contrast to their fashion sense, Jordanian buildings and houses seem to be built for purpose rather than style. Most houses being cinderblock or cement built in squares or rectangles in the hillsides. They are the original cement gray colorful, with very few decorations outside or thoughtful landscaping.
